PlayHouse 313 is a group of Detroit area artists who are committed to creating a more attractive, livable, economically viable and sustainable community in the North Woodward Corridor and beyond. Our goal is to promote art as a means to underscore the basic interconnections between different people and to show how life is best lived by honoring those interconnections. The group’s founding members are: John Gruchala, a prolific poet; Carlespie Mary Alice McKinney, an essayist and filmmaker, and author of a book of essays entitled: “Why They Think I’m Crazy: Except When They Really Think About It;” Dwight Stackhouse, an actor and writer, who traveled the world with acclaimed author and playwright James Baldwin for three years; Carl Wilson, an artist who, among other things is a painter and printmaker; and Mariuca Rofick, a photographer.
