Brace yourself for a gathering of contemporary Detroit art that won’t be seen again for quite a while.

This September Whitdel Arts and detroit contemporary are sponsoring the 2013 Actual Size Biennial, an art extravaganza that will feature over a 100 local and nationally-based artists. Everyone involved has been selected based on a connection to Motown’s art scene. The event runs from Sept. 14 to October 19.

“This is an important exhibition for Detroit in that it provides a broad array of our vibrant and talented visual art community here,” Aaron Timlin, curator of the exhibition said in a release.

Maurice Greenia, Jr., Toby Millman (former Critical Moment featured artist) and Gualbert Orozco are just a few of the many talented individuals participating in the biennial. (SEE COMPLETE LIST BELOW). Work featured there will come in a variety of mediums, including sculpture, painting, photo, video and assemblage, but the rules require at least two of dimensions of each of the works be postcard size (4 ¼” x 5 ½”), letter size (8 ½” x 11”) or legal size (8 ½” x 14”).

The event kicks off with free receptions at the Whitdel (1250 Hubbard Street, Suite B1, Detroit) and detroit contemporary (5141 Rosa Parks Blvd, Detroit) on September 14 from 6 to 10 p.m. Hope to see you there!
